So if you guys are the Oilers' GM, would you go after Hall or Seguin if you got the first pick? Or could the Oilers go after the number 3 and surprise everyone in Connolly? I really still like Hall over Seguin, even though Seguin is rated higher. I just like Hall's skating better. I really like Edmonton’s future. They have some very good assets, and Sourray healthy at the draft could be some good trade bait. With Hemsky and Khabby healthy next season, the Oilers should be a improved hockey team.
In San Jose, there is a lot of pressure come the playoffs. They continue to dominate the regular season, but they continue to underachieve in the playoffs. There is a lot of pressure on Gentleman Joe to perform. If he doesn’t, do the Sharks think about dealing him? Nabokov has to prove he can win the big one. He has to win in the second season. The Sharks have some decisions to make too. Do they let Marleau or Nabokov go, or do they sign them? There are a lot of questions. The answers depend on how the Sharks do in the off season.
Talking about the Stanley Cup, in Washington the fans are making parade plans. The only question I have is whether the goaltending is going to be good enough. Is the Capitals' decision not to go after a goalie at the deadline going to bite them in the butt? Of course, if the Capitals score like they can, I could go in net and it would not matter. They have offense to burn. The Capitals might have one of the best young centers in the game in Backstrom. And how about Brook Laich, another terrific young player? The Capitals are also supposed to have some defensemen named Mike Green. I hear he can shoot the puck pretty good.
In Pits, Sid the Kid rips his 49th goal of the year as the Pens battle the Devils for first in the division to avoid playing the Caps until the final. The division title might very well be very important in winning the East. Crosby has been shooting the puck this season. He has been spectacular this year.
In Calgary, there are rumors that the Flames are clearing house and that both Sutters are getting fired, and the president, Ken King, to boot. There are also rumors that Jbo, Iggy, and Regher could all be asked to waive their no-trade clauses. Media is expecting all sorts of changes with both the team and the management. Fans are demanding changes. It will be interesting to see what happens in the off season in Calgary.
If you want my Flames blog on the situation, I will try to post it later in the columns under thefanblogger. Thanks.
The Fan Poll question: Who is going to win the Cup? My pick is the Capitals, as Alex scores his 50th as I am writing this blog. They have the scoring to overcome their goaltending worries.
Until next time, take care.
