News around the League

So in Calgary, they have traded farm hand Brent Connelly. The move simply gives the Flames more cap room. Whether or not the Flames acquire Carter, the worst it gives them is the flexibility to do so. The Flames obviously need a first line center to play with Iggy, especially if Jay continues to live in fantasyland and believe that the Flames are good enough to make the playoffs. Oh, by the way, Jay, how are you going to get Carter? Yeah, good luck with that. Although I do believe the Flames are trying to do just that and land Carter.

In Toronto, they are still shopping Luke Schenn, which seems to be more obvious with the signing of John-Michael Liles for the next 4 years. My guess is that Burke really wants a number one centre. The Leafs could be a very dangerous team with a number one centre, depending on the price.

In Anaheim, I really cannot believe that they would be willing to trade Perry or Ryan and Getzlaf. The three are superstars; the only reason why they would do this is is to get more secondary scoring to help. Things might change though, as the Ducks have been playing like a real team and could still make a playoff push. They were also rumoured to be trading Hagman, who has played very well this season since coming over from the Flames.

In Philly, they are desperately looking for a d-man, and have plenty of talent to dangle in return. I am sure they will be trying to fill the loss of Pronger. I mean, how could they not, with the threat of his career being over, not just the season. I bet the Flyers will be busy at the deadline.

In Nashville, the Preds have to address the issue of Suter, as he is telling the media that he is testing the market. So do the Preds hang onto him for the playoff push, or do they trade him and get as much as they can? The two most obvious teams to do the trade are the Flyers, and - this may surprise you - I think the Oilers are going to make a huge pitch for him.

In Oil country, they are at a crossroads with Ales Hemsky. He seems to be the odd player out. Ales still has a lot of talent. I think he has a lot to offer. The Oilers should get pretty good package. It's obvious that the Oilers need to address this issue. I just don't understand why they have not addressed the issue earlier. The Oilers could be a very stong team with a couple solid defencemen.

Could someone please tell me, what is the best team the League could want? I really don't know. I am talking about the Boston Bruins, of course. My guess is that they will be looking for a fourth or fifth defencemen. They should ask the Flames for Cory Sarich.

Fan poll

If you were the GM of the Flames, would you make a pitch for Carter?

Should the Preds trade Suter, or do they keep him for the playoff run?
