Thomas Pock Suspended for five games...
“The National Hockey League has suspended New York Islanders defenseman Thomas Pock for five games as a result of an elbowing incident that took place during the team’s game last night against the Ottawa Senators. Pock was assessed a major penalty for elbowing and game misconduct for hitting Ottawa forward Ryan Shannon at 15:55 of the third period.
Pock will begin his suspension immediately and will be eligible to return on November 26 when the Islanders play the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Nassau Coliseum.”
Islanders General Manager Garth Snow: “We understand the League’s position in respect to cracking down on hits to the head and we agree with their objectives. It was an unfortunate incident and we hope Ryan can return to the ice quickly.”
Islanders Defenseman Thomas Pock: “I understand why there is a need for the League to enforce a strict policy to hits to the head. I have reached out to Ryan to apologize and I hope he makes a quick recovery.”
IslesNation: I understand the NHL is trying to narrow down on injuries, by being more strict with suspensions. But this to me was not an issue. I feel if there is a major result in an incident, then there should be action taken. But to me, this is just hockey.
